Movie Review: Black Snake Moan R-5 Strings

excellent from the first frame of film. fantastic music and this film is one of the reasons i love movies. style and substance. i really hate to be superficial at moments like this, but christina ricci looks amazingly stunning. wow. she does have, however, have very strange eyes.

Movie Review: Reno 911: Miami UR-3 Strings

fantastic funny. perverse and stupid, sure, but what else did you expect. never got into the tv series, but there is plenty to laugh at. some really pointless moments, but when the funny kicks in, its impressive to watch. comedy troupe-type stuff.

Movie Review: Another State Of Mind R-3 Strings

another chapter in the 'learn about west coast punk' films. follows a tour of capital punishment and youth brigade. i used to listen to youth brigade back in high school. ill say it again, if you havent done your homework, put your misfits shirt back in the closet.

Movie Review: America: Freedom to Fascism NR-5 Strings

this movie can be seen for free at google video. i dont buy the overstated doom and drama, BUT i learned more here than i have in any history class about the federal reserve and the role of private banks in public governments, as well as the IRS. watch it for free. its worth it.

Movie Review: The Good German R-2 Strings

very noir-ish. file this one under 'another-george-clooney-film-with-something-missing'. (syriana, good night and good luck). im not convinced of what the actual purpose for this film is...international intrigue? historical reflection? gumshoe mystery?

Movie Review: Letters From Iwo Jima R-5 Strings

strong story. makes me wish flags of our fathers had more to do with the battle for the island. a couple of times it felt like the film was too aware of itself...dramatic pan/lighting, but it felt like an authentic telling of the 'other side' of the famous battle.

Movie Review: The Simpsons PG13-5 Strings

hilarious. better than the beavis and butthead film by a mile. the rapid-fire simpson jokes were classics. tons of inside jokes and all the characters and bart's junk. it was like a long tv episode, but not at all in a bad way. some classic moments. stay through all the credits.

Movie Review: Dead Alive (Braindead) R-4 Strings

comic horror along the lines of re-animator, evil dead. pretty funny, and, without a doubt the bloodiest, most over the top violent movies i have ever seen. brash and over the top. oh, so violent.

Movie Review: The American Nightmare R-4 Strings

part two of 'horror class'. really made a fantastic argument for horror films in the cultural landscape. night of the living dead (african american lead) hits theaters during the civil rights movement. it appears that many of the main horror films reflected social issues. heavy documentary.

Movie Review: Going To Pieces: The Rise And Fall Of The Slasher Film R-4 Strings

a documentary that really thrilled in all the gory clips from the many different slasher films. good history lesson in american horror, left out the brittish/international stuff. some new discoveries when you place all these flicks in a chronological order.

Movie Review: Transformers PG13-3 Strings

imagine a futuristic world in which all of the cars are made by GM. (the horror!) what i've never liked about 'transformers': the good guys are lame cars, the bad guys are cool army gear., and transformer names sound like my little pony characters (bumble bee, starscream, jazz). i think this is the first turrets-syndrom-directed film ive ever seen. this is a very pro-army film...america, f--- yeah!

Movie Review: Deliver Us From Evil NR-5 Strings

bad times. very bad people who were protected by, for the most part, by good people. i really trust God comes down hard on the people who got away with unbelievable crimes against children. bad times.

Movie Review: Ghost Rider PG13-3 Strings

eva mendez really phoned this one in. didnt 'act', from what i could tell, in any scene. i LOVE films about comics. cage did a great job. the story was a bit thin, and you have to sort of 'let go' of a bunch of plot elements, but it rides fine, and i hope they do a better version the second time around.

Movie Review: Jonestown UR-4 Strings

wow. holy f-ing s---. i was 9 when this went down. this is a tragic statement of man's desire to connect with God, and humanity's desire to be a part of something larger than oneself. i was really depressed after watching this...a sign, i suppose, of a good film. stopped covering jim jones about halfway through.

Movie Review: Brokeback Mountain R-4 Strings

i wish i knew how to quit you!! i didnt buy the transition from 'studly cowboy' to 'thriving/wholesome homosexual'. everything but that shift was believable. good acting, and rather solid, otherwise.

Movie Review: Eragon PG-2 Strings

i can see how this would be a good book/movie for kids or tweens. bit of a romp. though i must say i am really impressed with how strange, nominal movies like this can employ the likes of john malkovich and jeremy irons. i guess everyone needs a paycheck once in a while.

Movie Review: The Descent UR-4 Strings

i originally watched this one when i was a bit too much with the beer, so i gave it another shot. this second time around, it was much better. there were a couple of gratuitous 'über-woman-ass-kicker' moments. a bit heavy on the stereotype, but a good film nontheless.

Movie Review: Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix PG13-5 Strings

good film. dang, these kids are getting old. not a lot of plot, but plenty of fun. cut out TONS from the book, which is too bad (poor ron weasley). i also feel bad because the girl who plays hermione really isnt growing up to be a solid actor. enjoy these films before they go away.

Movie Review: Infamous PG13-1 String

lame. truman capote was unique for sure, i just dont understand why there is so much fascination with him to warrant TWO films. one for malcolm x, two for truman capote. go figure.

Movie Review: Inside Man R-3 Strings

took a LONG time to get to the point. even then, the payoff wasnt so big. i also was not on board with all of the 'spike lee' stylized hipness, which continued to pull me out of the moment. had a ton of potential.

Movie Review: Ratatouille G-5 Strings

not as kid friendly as the turret-like other cg flicks ive been catching lately. which is good. there is something old-fashioned about it...simple people in basic situations. it should also be noted that the only characters with american accents were the rats. good story. made me want to cook.

Movie Review: Rocky Balboa PG-3 Strings

tried really hard to have the same heft as 'raging bull'. it was good, but a little too earnest...i could tell it was trying hard to be great. in that regard, its completely foreign from the other rocky films, which were painfully unwatchable.
