Movie Review: The Mist PG13-4 Strings

killer mist, not as lame as it sounds. classic stephen king, full of hyperbolic caricatures. the worst of which, of course, is the Christian freak. fits fine in a story, seems desperate in a film. a great horror flick, one of the most depressing endings ive seen in years.

Movie Review: Planet Terror R-4 Strings

irreverent zombie-esque flick. gore-filled bloodfest. rose mcgowan just cant carry the go go dancer protagonist role very well, and the plot had some gigantic holes that only get addressed in the last few minutes, thankfully. a little too campy in spots, but good clean fun overall.

Movie Review: Pirates Of Silicon Valley PG13-3 Strings

how computers (mac/microsoft) got their start. my brother wouldnt like this film as it favors mac/jobbs, and makes gates look like a sheister. whats really weird is that this is the second time jen has watched it...a fact-based movie about two computer companies. i dont get it either.

Movie Review: I Am Legend PG13-4 Strings

cancer cure mutates and leaves will smith as the only person left. a surprisingly scary film with lots of tension. a bit slow, like the story from which it came, and smith covers it reasonably well, though you still get some of the 'hell na' mindset which is really getting tired (see: wanda sykes).

Movie Review: Evan Almighty PG-1 String

God decides to build another ark, for some reason. it IS fun to visualize the ark/animals, but this movie is terrible. you cant pander to and be critical of Christians in the same movie...it's called a backhanded compliment. oh yeah, wanda sykes in ANOTHER no you di-int character.

Movie Review: Black Book R-4 Strings

girl uses her beauty to survive in ww2. interesting to see a truly european movie about the war. most of it was in dutch, but it would also switch to german and english, fluidly. bit of a love story, and certainly tragic (thank you world war 2), but it was interesting to watch a woman try to survive in the man's war.

Movie Review: Next PG13-2 Strings

based on a phillip k. dick story about a guy who can see 2 minutes into the future. the movie cant seem to come to an agreement about what it wants to be--a story or a film. one string up for jessica biel, one string down for the grey-toothed, stern-faced laura linney wannabe, julianne moore.

Movie Review: The Lives Of Others R-5 Strings

east berlin just before its fall. a stasi spying on a play write. this film focuses on the guy doing the spying, and what seems to be his progressive attitude about east berlin. loyalty and personal opinion collide. you'll have to read it, but if youre in a heady, chardonnay kind of mood, go for it.

Movie Review: 1408 PG13-4 Strings

haunted writer tries to stay in a haunted room. lots of scares in this, and cusack once again delivers the goods. reminds me a lot of the m. night shamylanasnas movies, except you dont get to the end of the film and as wtf? a thrilling renter for sure.
